SUMMARY:Ground/work 2025
DESCRIPTION:In 2020 the Clark opened Ground/work\, a one-year exhibition of monumental sculpture by six artists that was situated in the landscape surrounding the museum. Ground/work 2025 once again features specially commissioned works located across the Clark’s campus. This sequel exhibition focuses on global conceptions of craft\, defined as the physical process by which artists transform the world around them. Each of the six international artists participating in the exhibition exemplifies how artisanal traditions can be reinvented to generate contemporary form and meaning. The Ground/work 2025 artists are: Yō Akiyama (Japan)\, Laura Ellen Bacon (United Kingdom)\, Aboubakar Fofana (Mali)\, Hugh Hayden (United States)\, Milena Naef (Switzerland)\, and Javier Senosiain (Mexico).

SUMMARY:A Room of Her Own: Women Artist-Activists in Britain\, 1875-1945
DESCRIPTION:A Room of Her Own: Women Artist-Activists in Britain\, 1875–1945 features paintings\, drawings\, prints\, stained glass\, embroidery\, and other decorative arts made by twenty-five professional women artists in Great Britain who were\, in fact\, answering Virginia Woolf’s call during her lifetime. The exhibition explores the spaces these women claimed as their own and which furthered their artistic ambitions\, including their rooms\, homes\, studios\, art schools\, clubs\, and public exhibition venues. Their roles in creating change and opportunity—whether through art education\, marching for women’s suffrage\, protesting World War I\, or creating networking opportunities for fellow artists or members of their community—is also highlighted in this presentation

SUMMARY:Sashiko Hand-Stitching Basics
DESCRIPTION:Sashiko Hand Stitching Workshop \nWith Rachel Barclay\nAll Skill Levels Welcome!\nPRE-REGISTRATION REQUIRED – MUST REGISTER BY MARCH 21\, 2026 \nSashiko is a Japanese mending and embroidery handwork skill which uses a simple running stitch to create bold and geometric patterns on textiles. The stitching tradition has been used for centuries in Japan\, and continues globally\, as a contemporary needlework practice to mend\, patch\, strengthen\, quilt\, and embellish garments or home goods for longevity and beauty. With focus on exploration of the craft\, workshop participants will learn how to handle thread\, layout a grid\, draw patterns\, employ a Sashiko needle\, and use “small stabs” to stitch designs onto their mini-patch samplers. \nSashiko patterns are inspired by nature\, architecture\, and culture. Students will choose from a variety of motifs that suit their design aesthetic and comfort level; tiny plus signs\, woven tortoise\, ocean waves\, and seven treasures to name a few. The stitched squares can later be transformed into purposeful\, small goods such as a pocket\, pin cushion\, patch\, sachet\, or coaster. \nAll skill levels are welcome whether a novice stitcher or experienced fiber artist! Everyone will work at their own pace. Bring your good reading glasses! There will be a break halfway through the workshop.
