Peter D. Gerakaris (American, b.1981) is an interdisciplinary artist best known for his kaleidoscopic works that engage nature-culture motifs through painting, works on paper, accordion books, and installation. Born in New Hampshire, Gerakaris earned a BFA from Cornell University’s College of Architecture, Art, and Planning in 2003, and his MFA from the City University of New York’s Hunter College, where he also received the Tony Smith Prize.

In addition to solo shows at venues such as Cornell Tech (Roosevelt Island, NY), Wave Hill (New York, NY), and iSolAIR (Cape Verde Islands, Africa), Gerakaris has exhibited at Shizaru Gallery (London, UK); Dieu Donné Studios (New York, NY); Chinese Contemporary Gallery (Beijing, China); the Doors Feature Exhibition (Seoul, Korea); the Bronx Museum of the Arts (New York, NY); Loretta Howard Gallery (New York, NY); Kathleen Cullen Fine Arts (New York, NY); Central Booking (New York, NY); gallery nine 5 (New York, NY); Heather James Fine Art (Palm Desert, CA); Daniel Weinberg Gallery (Los Angeles, CA); the National Academy of Fine Arts (New York, NY); and the Mykonos Biennale (Mykonos, Greece).

The artist has also been commissioned to produce numerous public works, including a 1,000-square-foot immersive, site-specific installation for Cornell Tech on Roosevelt Island, and a large-scale storefront window installation at Bergdorf Goodman on Fifth Avenue, curated by Linda Fargo and Grey Area.

Additional distinctions include the Edwin Austin Abbey Fellowship at the National Academy of Fine Arts; the Clowes Foundation Full-Fellowship Award at the Vermont Studio Center; the Sun Room Honorarium at Wave Hill; and the US Embassy Artist in Residence Fellowship in Cape Verde Islands. Gerakaris has participated in residencies at the Red Gate Gallery (Beijing, China), iSolAIR (Cape Verde Islands), the Vermont Studio Center, and the Bronx Museum of the Arts. The artist has maintained a studio in New York City since 2003.
